When She Happened ~ OneShot

Shivaay

I gritted as I took out my gun and aimed it at my target who was running away from me.

I could've chased him but I had already exercised this morning and didn't feel like running so I just pulled the trigger and became the reason for his death.

"Clean it." I muttered as I tossed my gun towards one of my gang member and walked in the opposite direction towards my car.

"Boss!"

I didn't stop to look who had called me cause I recognised the voice all too well, and kept walking towards my car.

"Boss, it's Kazi, he wants to meet you, now." Jimmy, my henchman, panted as he reached near me.

"Really? What for?" I asked as I climbed inside my car and shut the door close and rolled the window down.

"Regarding shipments." Jimmy replied.

"Hmm, ok I'll go meet him." I gave a nod as my driver started driving me to venue where Kazi had arranged the meeting.

Jimmy had already texted my driver the address.

I stared outside the window as the scene ran past me.

I wondered if this was all a dream or was it really happening.

Was I really the underworld don in Mumbai now?

I, Shivaay Singh Oberoi, was a don now?

It felt so surreal like I was still a 17 year old refugee from Punjab juvenile from 11 years ago.

I had been conspired against and thrown into jail by my uncle for my share of the property, after killing my sister and parents.

I had escaped the juvenile 11 years ago but the memories still haunted me. The memories of the juvenile where I was beaten, slapped, punched, scratched, got yelled at, got cursed at and what not.

I sighed.

I couldn't deny the fact that those injuries and experiences had only made me tough and had helped me become who I am today...

Ruthless, strong and a cold blooded murderer who is feared by everyone.

I was brought out of my thoughts when the car suddenly screeched to halt throwing me forward.

"The hell?!" I glared at my driver. "Can't you drive carefully?"

"Sorry sir." My driver replied.

"Useless." I mumbled to myself before looking ahead to see what had made him apply the breaks.

I furrowed my eyebrows when I saw a girl in wedding lehenga in front of my car. She looked like those angels everyone dreamed about.

The girl made an eye contact with me through the windshield.

She had big expressive eyes.

The girl broke the eye contact and glanced behind herself before running to the other side of my car.

Without a warning she got inside my car and occupied the seat beside me.

I just stared at her with a poker face, even though I was astonished by her actions.

"Drive!" She yelled at my driver who looked at me for confirmation.

I gave him a nod, before turning my attention to the girl again.

She was panting and struggled to even her breath so I opened the fridge I had in my car and threw her an energy drink.

"Thanks." She smiled and gulped it.

After she finished the drink, she turned to me.

"Thank you." She smiled. "Thanks for saving my as- I mean- life." She covered herself before she could cuss.

I just gave a blank face and turned away.

"I'm Annika by the way, Annika Raichand." The girl introduced herself. "And you must be?"

I just ignored her.

She was too beautiful and I knew for a fact that I wouldn't have been able to detach my eyes from her or stop myself from falling for her if I would've got too friendly with her.

"Are you deaf?" Annika asked innocently.

"Ay-" My driver was about to scold her but my one look made him shut up.

Annika saw it and smiled.

"So you ain't deaf." Annika concluded.

"No." I mumbled back.

"Um...So what's your name?" Annika asked again.

"Shivaay." I replied as I pulled out my laptop and started working.

"Shivaay? As in that idiot don Shivaay Singh Oberoi?" Annika chuckled at her own joke.

Through my peripheral vision I saw my driver glaring at her through the mirror.

"Why did you intrude our car?" My driver hissed.

"Oh right, I forgot to tell you that." Annika face-palmed. "My father is getting me married to some bimbo and I don't wanna get married so I just ran away from my wedding. And as my father is a commissioner he has sent tons of people behind me."

While she was complaining, I couldn't help but observe how her cute nose twitched when she called her supposed to be groom a 'bimbo' and how she glared at the headrest of driver's seat when she told her father had sent in people behind her.

A small smile escaped on my lips as I studied her facial features.

Annika was drop-dead gorgeous but what I loved the most about her were her eyes. Her eyes were true to her soul, they reflected innocence, a childish charm and her pure heart.

Annika frowned as she finished complaining and looked at me.

"But you saved my life." Annika grinned. "So thanks again."

"If you don't wanna get married just tell your father, why to run away?" I said.

"Well, you see, it's not like I do not wanna get married. I want to, but I've some conditions." Annika replied. "Like...I want my husband to be a rowdy and not some 9 to 5 goody two shoes. I want him to be someone who will not just protect me but kill every person who dared to even look at me in a bad way."

"You want to marry a goon or something?" I scoffed.

"Why not!" Annika exclaimed. "Not every goon is bad at heart. Like someone has said, a broken hero is another story's brutal villian. Situations shape a person so if a person is good, praise his luck and if he's bad then blame his luck."

"Are you a writer?" I asked curiously.

"Nope." Annika giggled. "I'm a psychiatrist."

"Hmm." I acknowledged.

"What's your profession?" Annika's big brown eyes stared at me with anticipation.

"I'm a don." I introduced myself nonchalantly, like being a don is some normal profession.

"Cool!" Annika grinned. "Do you have a gun? Do you kick asses of people? What's your back story? How did you become a don? I want full details!"

I looked at her like she had grown two heads.

Was she even for real?

She was getting excited to know me, a don, without any ounce of fear or worry.

Did she not know me enough to feel scared of me?

But considering that her father's a commissioner, shouldn't she already know at least something about me?

"Earth to SSO." Annika waved her hand before my eyes.

I came out of my trance and looked at her again, before she or I could say anything my driver interrupted us.

"Sir, we've reached." My driver informed.

I nodded at him before he got out of the car, leaving me and Annika alone.

"If you go straight and take 1st left, you'll find a bus stop there." I told Annika and pulled out some money from my wallet. "Here's some money, go home and talk it out with your father, running away is not a solution. Good luck, goodbye."

"You want me to go?" Annika asked with a hint of sadness in her eyes.

"Huh?" I furrowed my eyebrows at her. "Why would I want you to stay?"

Sure she was mesmerizing and her innocent, bubbly nature could capture anyone's heart but I was a don, a cold hearted, emotionless don. I didn't even believe in love let alone love at first meet.

"Right." She mumbled, more to herself than me. "I guess it's a bye then."

I didn't reply as I watched her getting out of my car and walking away.

I exhaled a breath as I felt a bit sad to wave her off like that...but then I collected my thoughts and composed myself.

She's no one to me and I don't need to feel sad if she leaves cause she was never a part of my life ~ I told myself.

I pulled my secret phone out of my car's door and texted Annika's location to someone who could get her home safely before tossing the phone back where it was.

I exited my car and entered the building where I was supposed to meet Kazi.

"Hey Shivaay." Kazi smiled as he gave me a formal hug.

Kazi was a smuggler, the biggest smuggler of Mumbai and we had worked together for a couple of shipments. He was one of the most feared underworld personality.

"What got me the pleasure of meeting you?" I asked, after getting comfortable on the couch.

My gang members were already standing behind me with their guns and Kazi's people were standing behind him, loaded with guns too.

"I want you to kidnap a girl for me." Kazi started but my chuckle cut him off.

"I'm a don, Kazi bhai, I ain't no roadside thug who you want to hire for mere kidnappings." I objected.

"Hear me out." Kazi insisted. "She's not a normal girl. I want you to kidnap commissioner's daughter."

I was surprised.

Without a doubt, he was talking about Annika, but I didn't let my emotions show up on my face.

"What for?" I asked in a cold voice.

"You see, commissioner has raided our places and has confiscated half of our shipments. He doesn't even accept money." Kazi spoke venomously. "If you kidnap his daughter, I can use her as a bait to get my shipments back."

"I see." I gritted as I tried my best not to show up my anger in any way. "But you kill every person, except for the people in your line, who has seen your face."

Kazi chuckled.

"I do." He nodded. "The girl won't be an exception, that is.." Kazi leaned forward and winked with a small chuckle. "...if she's not beautiful enough."

Fire blazed in my eyes, did that stupid idiot just hinted that he would do something nasty to my Annika if she's beautiful.

"Kazi!" I couldn't help but growl.

Kazi furrowed his eyebrows as to why I had suddenly became angry but his attention got diverted when one of his henchman came inside and called him.

"I found this girl roaming around aimlessly. She was constantly keeping a watch on our building." Kazi's henchman informed as he pushed Annika inside the room.

My eyes widened a bit.

Hadn't I told Annika to leave? What was she doing here!

"Shivaay." Annika pouted as she ran towards me while rubbing her sore arm where the goon had a grip. "Tell them I'm with you."

I looked away with clenched jaws as I refrained myself from muttering all the colorful words in the world.

I took a deep breath and turned to Kazi.

"She's with me." I said and stood up. I clasped my hand in Annika's. "I think I should leave." I said and was walking towards the exit with Annika by my side when-

"Stop!" Kazi yelled.

I stopped and turn around only to push Annika behind myself, when I saw Kazi and his men aiming their guns at us.

"What's happening?" Annika asked nervously as she scanned all the men and their guns.

"You happened!" I whispered-growled. "Hadn't I told you to go home?"

Annika was about to retort but Kazi cut her off.

"Aww..." Kazi mocked. "...I didn't know you both were a couple." He clicked his tongue. "Sorry Shivaay but I want her now. Not just for my shipments but for my heart's desire too." He smiled wickedly as he eyed Annika.

"Not even in your dreams." I said back in a dangerously low voice.

"Get them both." Kazi ordered his men.

On his orders, all the men started advancing towards me but my men stopped them and a fist fight took place.

"C'mon." I mumbled as I dragged Annika out of the room and towards the corridor.

"Not so soon." Kazi yelled as he jogged behind us. He brought his walkie talkie to his lips. "Close the exit. Send in the men."

I and Annika came to an abrupt stop when Kazi's people blocked our way from the front as well as back, in the corridor.

"Shivaay." Annika nervously bit her lower lip as her hold on my hand tightened and she scrambled closer to me.

"No one will fire." Kazi told his men as he slowly walked towards me and Annika. "I wanna kill him myself."

Kazi smirked.

"Shivaay Singh Oberoi, underworld don." Kazi started but then scrunched his face. "Doesn't quite sound right. How about... Undercover agent Shivaay Singh Oberoi?"

I didn't reply. I kept glaring at the wall beside him.

"What?" Annika asked confused.

"You don't know?" Kazi asked Annika.

"Duh...why would I ask you if I already knew?" Annika retorted.

"Well, then let me enlighten you." Kazi smiled. "Your lil boyfriend here, is an undercover agent who is here to unravel my secrets and get me arrested. Isn't that right, my boy?"

I still kept mum.

"Alas! It's not that simple, Shivaay." Kazi feigned disappointment. "You see, I'm not the most feared mafia for no reason, my network is stronger than FBI, Raw and Mossad."

Annika stared at me confused out of her mind.

"You're Shivaay Singh Oberoi, your age, 28. Born in Ambala. You're a juvenile escapee who was charged for his parents and sister's murder who were infact murdered by your uncle for wealth." Kazi recited my details. "You escaped the juvenile and came to Mumbai where you started pickpocketing and got caught. Then you met Inspector Daljeet Raichand, today's commissioner, who trained you to become an agent. He employed you and paid you to make your place in underworld so that you could get him all the details required for his raids and missions. In fact, you got my shipments confiscated."

Kazi walked right in my face and placed his gun on my forehead.

"You need to die." Kazi gritted as he forced the gun on my forehead a bit too hard.

I made an eye contact with Kazi without any fear or worry.

"Kill me if you can. Try it." I challenged with a smirk.

Kazi was about to pull the trigger and kill me but before he could put his finger on the trigger, numerous gunshots rung throughout the building as the men blocking our path dropped down dead one by one.

Kazi and the men behind him started firing too.

I quickly pulled Annika down to the ground and hugged her in order to cover her from harm.

Soon, the gun shots died down as the police barged in and Kazi and remaining of his men ran away.

I had texted Annika's location to commissioner from my secret phone before entering the building.

"Shivaay! Annika!"

I and Annika looked up to see commisioner Daljeet Raichand, Annika's father, walking towards us.

I quickly released Annika from my hold and stood up. Annika too stood up beside me but instead of jumping away from me, she linked her hand into mine.

I gave her a alarming look but she just ignored it.

"Shivaay." Daljeet sir growled when he saw Annika's hand in mine.

"Sir." I stood up straight like an officer.

Daljeet sir then turned to Annika.

"Why did you run away from your wedding?" Daljeet sir asked, still somehow maintaining his cool.

Annika quivered her lips.

"Because I love someone else." Annika replied.

What?!

"Who is it?" Daljeet sir asked while I too stared at her with sad eyes.

Annika raised her hand and jerked a finger in my direction.

"Shivaay." Annika mumbled.

"What?!" I and Daljeet sir shrieked in unison.

"Yes, papa. We love each other a lot and that's why he saved me from Kazi today. Kazi had kidnapped me but Shivaay risked his life for me. We're dating since 6 months and we really really love each other a lot." Annika lied through her teeth.

I just stared at her, amused out of my mind.

I gulped when my eyes travelled to sir and I saw him giving me death glares.

"Please papa, please get us married." Annika made a puppy dog face. "Shivaay is a good guy, plus, he works for you and he's also capable of protecting me and to top it all off, he's also rich."

"But-" I was about to interrupt but got cut off when Annika pinched my waist. "Oww." I muttered under my breath.

"Alright." Daljeet sir nodded after a while of thinking. "Shivaay take her away from her. Leave the city. Kazi has ran away and he knows you both so it's most likely that he'll come behind you to take his revenge so it's better if you both disappear for some time."

"Ok, sir." I gave a nod in a professional manner.

"I'll arrange plane tickets for you. Directly go to the airport." Daljeet sir said as he signalled his subordinate to get the tickets.

"Thanks papa." Annika grinned and hugged her father before kissing his cheek.

Daljeet sir smiled and kissed his daughter's forehead. "Be safe, munchkin."

"Don't worry, Shivaay will keep me safe." Annika smiled and started walking towards the exit of the building.

I was about to follow her but Daljeet sir stopped him.

"I'll deal with you later." Daljeet threatened me but then softened. "Keep my baby girl safe. I trust you and I hope you won't break my trust...or Annika's heart."

"I won't sir. I promise." I replied genuinely.

"Good." Daljeet sir nodded and then pushed me towards the exit. "Leave now."

I jogged out of the building and got inside the car. Annika was already sitting inside.

"So you love me, huh?" I asked.

"Duh." Annika blushed. "I love you ever since I saw you in the news killing that gang man in style."

"You're crazy, you know." I chuckled.

"Proudly." Annika smiled.

I shook my head.

"Wait up!" I said as I realised something. "So you already knew I was a don and you still didn't fear me?"

"Yup." Annika replied. "I'm a psychiatrist plus I'm an expert body language reader so I know how to read a person and your body language was calm, composed and from what I could decipher...you liked me at the first sight so I deduced that you ain't harmful."

I gave her a slow nod.

"So.." Annika kept the sentence hanging.

"So?" I asked, with slightly furrowed eyebrows.

"So...do you love me?" Annika asked with pink cheeks.

"Um.." I pretended to think. "...I don't know, but what I know is I wouldn't let anything happen to you, precious. I won't let anyone cast an evil eye on you. And I would kill every person on the earth or even myself if that's the cost to be with you."

Annika smiled.

I took her hand in mine, feeling the most happiest person on the earth.

Love wasn't even the last thing on my mind but it suddenly happened.

I loved Annika, I knew it but I will not admit that to her for next few months.

I and Annika lived happily in California for next few months until Kazi got caught and then we came back to India where Daljeet sir got us both married.
